⚠️ PLEASE NOTE – COMMISSIONER FOR OATHS IS NOT A PUBLIC NOTARY
Some types of paperwork may require a Notary Public or Lawyer instead of a Commissioner for Oaths., For example:
🔹 Certified True Copy of Passport, Driver's License, Birth Certificate, Marriage Certificate, Diploma, and other documents.
🔹 The document must clearly state the requirement as “Notary Public”, “Notarized”, or Notarial Seal.
🔹 Documents requiring notarized signatures or signing by Notary Public.
🔹 Documents to be used outside Alberta or outside Canada if the receiving agency requires Notary Public, notarization, authentication, or Apostille.
🔹 A Travel Consent Letter is required for children if the receiving country, airline, or agency requires a notarized consent letter. The Canadian government also recommends that the signing of the Travel Consent Letter be witnessed by a Notary Public.
🔹 Issues requiring legal advice, drafting or interpretation of legal rights and obligations, real estate transactions/transfers, wills, power of attorney, or complex legal documents should be handled or advised by a lawyer as appropriate.
